Give Location permission for the Nearby device

This step is crucial if you want to see your device's location on the map.

For some phones, this step will be requested on your first time setting up a device on the Google's Find Hub app. For other phones, you might need to enable it manually.

Below there are a couple of places where you can search and give the app the location permission. Exact steps and names may vary on your phone.

Search for the Google's Find Hub app on the app list

  1. Go to your phone settings and search for "Location".
  2. Tap on "App permissions"
  3. Search for the "Find Hub" app on the list of apps. Tap to open it.
  4. If not selected yet, choose: "Allow only while using the app"

OR

Tap and hold to open app settings

To quickly access the app settings:

  1. Tap and hold for 2 to 3secs on the Google's Find Hub icon.
  2. Tap on the (ℹ️) icon or 'App info'.
  3. On the Permission section, tap on Location.
  4. If not selected yet, choose: "Allow only while using the app"

Improve GPS location accuracy

Next, check if location accuracy is set on your phone, to make sure you get a better location positioning indoors:

  1. Go to phone settings.
  2. Search for "Location services'.
  3. Enable "Wi-Fi scanning" and "Bluetooth scanning".

Keep Bluetooth ON

In order to connect and sync your device's location when it's near you, we suggest keeping your phone Bluetooth ON. In case you forget your item behind, the last know location should be the last place it was still connected to you.

Set your Find Hub network settings to "network in all areas"

To ensure the best experience location your items, shared items and contribute to Google's Find Hub network. We recommend setting your location settings to 'with network in all areas'.

On your phone settings:

  1. Search for "Find Hub"
  2. Tap to select Find Hub and enable "Use Find Hub" toggle.
  3. Tap on "Find your offline devices. That should open different options for your Find Hub Network Settings.
  4. Review and select one of the options. We recommend setting your location settings to 'with network in all areas'. That will improve the ability to locate yours and other items within the Google's Find Hub network.

For detailed steps, check this Google article here.

Shared devices

If you are sharing your device with someone, please ensure that their phone's Find Hub network settings are also set to "with network in all areas' and that Bluetooth is enabled. This will improve location updates when the device is with them. If you can, also ask for you relatives and friends to switch it too.

Can’t access location

If you cannot access your device's location and see the message "Sync recent location”

  1. Remove your item from the Find Hub app. Tap on your device > Click on the engine icon > On the bottom of the page tap on "Remove from Find Hub.
  2. Factory reset your item. Check the steps on the How to reset a Clip, Card and Tag?.
  3. Reconnect the accessory to your Android device.
  4. Go back to Find Hub
  5. Reload your device list.

For further steps, also check Google's Support page article here.

Google's Find Hub network uses crowdsourced device-location data to update your device's location when it is not near you but close to other Android users.

The ability of your device to update its location outside of your phone's Bluetooth range depends on the presence of other Android users. In high-density areas, such as airports or shopping malls, your item's location should update more frequently than in a suburban neighborhood.

Google is actively working to roll out enhancements to how the Find Hub network operates that will improve the speed and ability of locating lost items over the coming weeks. Devices are continuing to join the new Find Hub network, and the network will continue to grow, which will also help improve lost device find-ability. Google encourages Bluetooth tag owners to change their Find Hub network setting to “With network in all areas” to help improve the network’s ability to find their lost items in lower-traffic areas

A commitment to safety

Google’s Find Hub is unique because it was designed with your safety as priority. Find Hub helps you find your lost or misplaced items while using smart protections to help keep you safe from real-time tracking of your belongings or yourself.

Google recently improved Find Hub's speed and ability to locate lost items while continuing to prioritize your safety.

To help improve the network’s ability to find your lost items in lower-traffic areas, we encourage Bluetooth tag owners to change their Find Hub network setting to “With network in all areas”.

We’ve heard from many users like you that most of your lost items are most commonly left behind in stationary locations – you leave your keys on a table at a cafe, or want peace of mind that your luggage wasn’t left at your origin airport.

That's why Google has designed Find Hub for the most common scenarios:

  • Locating everyday essentials: Find where you left your keys, wallet, or bag in busy public places.
  • Retrieving valuable items: Locate your bike or other important belongings if you forget where you parked or stored them.
  • Finding lost luggage: Track your bags at the airport or hotel check-in and make sure they stay with you during your travels.
  • Google is always working to make Find Hub even better, so you can expect ongoing improvements and new features in the future.

This page will help you troubleshoot the most common issues when connecting your new SmartCard for Android.

Check if your device is in pairing mode

Your device needs to be in pairing mode to be discovered by the phone. To enter pairing mode, press and hold the button for 5 seconds. Your unit is in pairing mode if it has beeped and the LED flashes.

If your device did not flash or not doing any action when you press and hold the button for 5 seconds, there are a few options:

  1. Charge your device
Align the lightning bolt icon on the back of the SmartCard to the center of your wireless charger. A red LED light should appear to show that it is charging.
Wait until the LED turns green, and follow the pairing instructions again.
  2. Open Google's Find Hub app and check if your device is already listed there. If there is a chance you already claimed the device:
Check if there is more than one Google account linked on your phone, make sure to check on all of them by going to the Find Hub app, on the right upper corner tap on your Account's icon or photo to switch accounts
  3. Factory Reset your device
Check this other article on How to reset your SmartCard

Make sure you have a "Works with Android" product

The new Google's Find Hub functionality is only available for the SmartCard Duo. If you have an old version of the SmartCard or own a SmartCard for Apple Find My, they won't work with Google's Find Hub app. Note that any device received prior to November 1st, 2025 is NOT compatible.

Check on the product box if you see the "Work with Android" badge.

Turn Bluetooth ON

In order to detect your unit, Bluetooth must be enabled to detect your unit.

To turn Bluetooth ON:

  1. Open your phone Settings.
  2. Search for Bluetooth. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled.

Check your Internet connection

In order to connect your unit, your phone must be connected to the Internet.

  • Make sure you have a stable connection.
  • Try switching to a different spot to get better connectivity.

Enable scan for nearby devices

In case this is not enabled yet, this will allow your phone to display the fast pair bottom sheet.

On your phone or tablet settings:

  • Search for Google.
  • Open Devices & sharing > Devices.
  • Enable the Scan for nearby devices or search for 'Nearby device scanning' on your phone settings.

Note: If you continue to not see the bottom sheet, we recommend also enabling "Include debug results". More details on how to enable and see these settings on your phone on a Google support page here.

Restart your phone

Sometimes, the phone only need a reboot to apply updates and start working. Give it a try.

  1. Factory reset your SmartCard or wait until it turns off (usually 10min after you first pressed the button)
  2. How to reset your SmartCard
  3. Turn your phone OFF and back ON. Wait ~10 min after it boots up. Your phone needs some time to check for updates and/or to bring back all the background services that were running.
  4. Bring the phone and the SmartCard close together. Make sure you have Bluetooth and Internet ON.
  5. You can also check that Find Hub is enabled for your account: Settings -> Google -> Find Hub -> Find your offline devices -> one of the "With network ..." options
  6. Press and hold the button for 5 seconds to activate your SmartCard.

The Fast pair sheet is being blocked by the operational system

In the case you dismissed the Fast pair bottom sheet too many times, the phone will interpret it as "I do not want to see it for now" and put it on hold. This is to avoid unintentionally spamming a nearby user that does not wish to pair with the device.

In your case, if you want to see the fast pair bottom sheet again AND if you have previously dismissed check the steps below (Note: if you have never seen the Fast pair bottom sheet that is probably not your case).

Check if you can see your device under the Nearby section

If you missed the bottom sheet, it can still be found under Bluetooth Connections. The exact steps might differ from brands and phone models but here are the most common:

DO NOT TAP on '+ Pair new device'. Google uses Fast Pair to connect and you won't be able to link it with Google's Find Hub app by pairing it with the phone. In case you have already paired, perform a factory reset and forget the item from the Bluetooth pairing list by going to Bluetooth settings and removing it. Check if you have multiple Google accounts on your phone

In case you have more than one Google account linked on your phone, check this other article: Google's Find My Hub app - user with multiple accounts.

Your phone is not compatible (yet)

Google's Find My Device works on Android phones running Android 9 and above and requires the latest version on Google Play Service to work. Although it has already been rolled out worldwide, it's possible that your phone or region has not received the update yet.

  • You can check that you have the latest version for Google Play Service here
  • You can also check you have the latest version for Find Hub here

You can visit the Find Hub app on the Play Store page and check under "Additional Information" if your region and phone are compatible.

You should also check if your phone is running an updated version of Google Play Services. For tips on how to check your version check this Google support page: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/9037938?hl=en

For Android users logged into multiple accounts on the same device (phone or tablet), a few extra steps might be necessary to pair your SmartCard item with the specific account you want in Google's Find Hub app.

My SmartCard disappeared from the app

If you've already paired your SmartCard with Google's Find Hub app but later couldn't locate it, it might be connected to a different account linked to the same phone.

When you pair your SmartCard item, it will be linked with your 'primary' google account that is set on your phone. That will happen despite the account you have chosen to log in to Google's Find Hub app.

When you are pairing your unit, the email which is being linked to, will be shown as part of the bottom pop-up message.

Check if you have multiple Google accounts on your phone

If you're unsure whether you have multiple accounts, open any Google app and tap the user icon in the top-right corner of your screen.

On the Google's Find Hub app

  1. Open Google's Find Hub app
  2. Tap on the user profile picture on top right corner.
  3. If multiple accounts exist, there will be an arrow near your email.
  4. Tap on the arrow to display other accounts linked to the phone.
  5. Your 'Default" account is usually the one at the top.

Change the account to link my device with Google's Find Hub

You may want to pair your SmartCard with a specific account in your Google Find Hub app.

If that's the case, as far as the SmartCard team knows, the only way to ensure your SmartCard item is linked to the desired Google account when multiple accounts are logged in is by setting that account as the primary one on your phone.

We encourage you to search for instructions specific to your phone model and Android version on how to change the "Default" or "Primary" Google account on your phone or tablet. You may also want to contact Google Support to confirm if these steps have changed.

For more details on managing your Google account, we recommend visiting this Google Support page: Manage your Google Account.

I can no longer access the account that my device has paired to

In case you don't remember the password or cannot log in to the account, you can perform a factory reset to attempt to pair your device again.

If you are using Google Find Hub app and change phones please follow these instructions

  1. Open the Google Find Hub app and log into the gmail account that you originally set up your SmartCard.

  4. The device will be removed from Apple Find My app
  5. You may need to factory reset your SmartCard. Check this other article: How to reset your SmartCard

If you need to remove your SmartCard from Google's Find Hub™, follow the steps below.

Removing your device will:

  • Disconnect it from your Google account.
  • Factory reset the device (if nearby), so it can be used by someone else.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Open the Google's Find Hub app on your Android phone or tablet.
  2. Find your device in the list and tap on it.
  3. Tap the settings icon (⚙️).

Note: A lock screen may be required to be created in order to continue.
Once the invited users accept the invite, their Google's account email will be shared with the owner of the device.
  4. As a final confirmation step, the owner of the accessory needs to confirm whether the user who has accepted the invitation is the person that they wanted to share the device with.
  5. After the accessory owner confirms sharing - the accessory will be visible on the list in Find Hub app. Both accounts will see the location updates and may ring the device locally.
